All Metis Harvesters who want to fish need to get a FREE Domestic Fishing License (DFL), even if you are only fishing with rod and reel. You can get the DFL online at Alberta ReLM https://www.albertarelm.com or in person at your local Fish and Wildlife office.
When getting your DFL, you no longer need to select the specific water bodies you want to fish in but you need to make sure you are fishing inside your approved Harvesting Area and abiding by the lake and river specific conservation rules that are listed in the Government of Alberta’s Domestic Fishing Licence Conditions. All Indigenous harvesters are required to follow these conservation rules, regardless of if they are First Nations or Metis. You can download a copy of the Conditions here.
